Fireplaces
A Customer once said "Even when the house is empty, I never feel lonely when I'm beside my fireplace!" A fireplace is a feature; a focal point of the room or the house itself. It is peace and calm; it is friendship, warmth and cosiness. A fireplace is many different things to different people.
First and foremost, a fireplace must work properly. A traditional brick fireplace, if not designed correctly, will smoke your room out. If it is designed correctly, it will still lose up to 90% of its heat up the chimney. This is why insert & freestanding fireboxes have been so successful for the past 50 odd years!
Which is the right model for you?
Thats where Woodpecker can help!
a) Inbuilt or Freestanding Fireplace?
Quite simply a matter of which "look" you prefer. The "Freestanding" look usually applies to Slow Combustion Wood heaters, but you can also have a freestanding Open Fireplace.
b) How much heat do I need?
If the fire is going to be your sole heating source for the whole house, then a Slow Combustion (Glass Fronted) unit with the capacity to burn overnight is needed. To create a feature fireplace primarily for looks then the Open Fire look is a more versatile option.
c) Wood or Gas Models?
A Gas Log Fireplace will not heat the whole house. As a rule of thumb, work on 10 Squares as a heating limit from a Gas Log fireplace. So if you want all the looks of a fire without the rituals associated with a wood fireplace, then you can't go wrong with one of our Gas Log Fires.
There are many more aspects to consider but that's enough for now.
